We love our home and all the history we have gathered about the three generations of the Parker family who resided in the home for over 100 years. In 2001, the "Parker Family Reunion" was held at our home and family members were able to return to their roots. They have brought us great stories of the Parkers who built the home and raised seven children plus numerous nieces and nephews.
We are very proud of our home and enjoy sharing our "adventure" of restoration as we did most of the work ourselves. Our goal is make everyone feel at home and enjoy a touch of the past. We hope you will feel comfortable enjoying an evening watching TV or an afternoon spent reading a book or taking a stroll. Please feel free to sit on one of the porches just relaxing and enjoy time spent with friends and family. Some of the past events at the Milton Parker include:
Our largest event was a Golden Wedding Anniversary, where the couple renewed their vows under the same two trees they were married under 50 years ago. One hundred and seventy-five guests attended and a Bar-B-Q dinner was served. Another group calling themselves the "WAH-WAH" sisters arrived for a week-end retreat. Football season with the "Aggies" brings friends together. The home can be reserved and meals can be catered as requested. It is always nice to have a home away from home where friends can visit and reflect without being sandwiched in a hotel room or lobby.
Christmas is especially exciting with a minimum of ten Christmas trees and Santa Clauses on each of the twenty one steps leading to the upstairs bedrooms with garland on the fireplaces and Christmas villages, we believe even "Scrooge" would feel the holiday spirit.
Our Bed and Breakfast guests always seem to enjoy sleeping in rooms which have 11 foot ceilings and homemade quilts, hand stitched by Evelyn Zeig to match each bedroom. Evelyn has been quilting for over 65 years and has received several First and Second place ribbons at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Breakfast is a "hit" with country breakfasts, biscuits, sausage gravy, fruits, homemade jellies french toast, specialty pancakes and much more!
Give us a call and we will work with you to make your special occasion a memorable experience.
Your Innkeepers,
Dr. Van A. Walker and John Zeig
